Johana Springston, MSW therapist

Johana Springston

I am a graduate level clinical social work intern with a desire to help children and adults find their way through traumatic experiences to live more peaceful and fulfilled lives.  I came to social work after a career in public service and nonprofits, where I learned the importance of connection and humility working with people to create meaningful change. I know true healing takes time and patience and I am here to walk alongside you in your journey.

I am a graduate student at the University of Maryland working toward my Master of Social Work degree, while serving as a Clinical Social Work Intern at Kindred Tree Healing Center. In this role, I am developing skills in trauma-informed care, attachment-based approaches, and play therapy while supporting both children and adults. I’m looking forward to supporting children who are navigating difficulty at home or school because of trauma, anxiety or support around their neurodivergence. With adults, I’m committed to providing trauma based support over relational stressors, anxiety, grief, and complex trauma.

Available for in-person therapy in Frederick, MD. Telehealth sessions for clients in Maryland and Virginia.

Before entering clinical social work, I worked with survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault, and youth to find mentors.  I also led a child abuse prevention program supporting first-time parents.  That work taught me deep listening, building trust, and standing with people as they pursue meaningful change.  These are the same values I carry into every session. I am a trained attachment parenting leader; and, currently, I am on a three-year path of study in mindfulness meditation and Dharma teachings.   All of these experiences have deepened my understanding of and compassion for people seeking change.
